Tanzania Travel Insurance
Everything you need to know about insuring a Tanzania safari or a Kilimanjaro climb — why it matters, what it costs and which cover to choose.
A quick guide to travel insurance
1 Why is travel insurance so important?
In today’s changing travel environment, it’s important to protect your travel investment so you can relax and enjoy your trip. Unforeseen events such as flight delays, baggage loss or even a sudden sickness or injury could impact your travel plans. For your convenience, we offer a Travelex Insurance Services protection plan to help protect you and your travel investment against the unexpected.
2 How much does travel insurance cost for Tanzania?
Most Tanzania travel insurance is categorised under three classes — Budget, Silver (medium) and Gold (standard). The premium depends on the policy’s coverage, such as emergency evacuation, accidents, loss of baggage, trip cancellation and others.
| Plan | Approx. price |
|---|---|
| Budget travel insurance | US$35 |
| Silver / medium travel insurance | US$50 |
| Gold / standard travel insurance | US$64 |
3 Types of travel insurance for visitors to Tanzania
Travel insurance matters whenever you are outside your own country. There are several types of policy — the right one depends on how often you travel and who you travel with.
Annual Multi-Trip
Perfect for regular overseas travellers and business travellers. Cheaper than buying single-trip cover each time, so it’s the choice of most frequent travellers.
Group Travel
For ten or more travellers on the same itinerary. It works like an individual plan but covers the whole group on a single policy.
Single-Trip
Covers events before and during one trip — trip cancellation, interruption, travel delay, lost luggage and emergency medical needs.
Trip Cancellation
Focused cover for trip cancellation, interruptions and baggage loss — often at a similar price to standard travel insurance.
4 Which insurer is best for Kilimanjaro?
You will need to satisfy yourself about exactly what a given policy covers before you buy it. That said, we have generally found World Nomads to offer the most suitable insurance cover for Kilimanjaro.
US citizens may also wish to consider Berkshire Hathaway’s “AdrenalineCare” insurance, which is designed with adventure activities in mind.
Whichever insurer you choose, make sure the policy covers trekking to Kilimanjaro’s summit altitude (5,895 m) and includes emergency medical evacuation.
